CD: Kellylee Evans - Fight or Flight?
Written by: Fred | June 2006

Every now and then, you hear a voice that is so pure, so passionate and so honest, that you can’t help but give it your undivided attention. Kellylee Evans’ voice will get your attention.

Her debut release Fight or Flight? is an intoxicating mix of jazz, R&B, and exotic rhythms. The title track is a great Latin flavoured song about combating the apathy that paralyzes us all. “How Can You Get Along Without Me?” is the most traditional jazz number on the record and sounds like it might have been recorded by Ella or Sarah in the fifties. There’s some great blues in the form of “I Don’t Think I Want to Know” and “Rapunzel” is a hauntingly beautiful Spanish ode to a temptress. All the songs show a maturity far beyond her years. The most surprising part of her talent is that in addition to being a top notch vocalist, Kellylee is also a fantastic songwriter; she wrote every song on Fight or Flight?.

If you have a chance to see her live, run, don’t walk. Her concerts are electric with energy. I have seldom seen anyone bring a jazz audience on its feet and dancing in the aisles. Refer back to her web site to find out when she will be appearing in your area, and pick up her CD in selected record stores and on line at cdbaby.com.
