To MAC or PC…That Is The Question
Written by: Holly | June 2007

We’ve all seen the clever Apple computer ads featuring Justin Long as “Mac” and get a kick out of the jabs back and forth about who is better at what. But for many of us, deciding which side to invest in can be very challenging and quite stressful. Now, I know that Mac users will cringe at this statement but there are some benefits to both sides. One of the biggest issues to consider is cost. Owning an Apple system was once considerably more expensive and possibly not a necessary added expense if you weren't in need of the specific attributes that Macs have to offer. The price of Apple systems have come down substantially in the past few years and compatability issues are less of a concern but you can still purchase a decent PC that can suit your requirements at a lower cost. There is also a bit of a learning curve to switching over from PC to MAC but once you get used to the MAC operating system, it is quite easy and user friendly. There is not much doubt out there that Macs are da bomb when it comes to creative applications. For design work, DVD editing, web creation, music applications, etc., the Mac is certainly superior. The Mac monitors provide much truer colour representation for design work and the DVD editing programs such as iDVD and Final Cut Pro far exceed those that I have experienced in the PC world. Although the Macs can still be a bit more expensive than PCs, Mac users will continue to pay for that superiority of features. I am just starting my foray into the Mac world and must admit that I am pretty impressed so far. I have always been quite fond of my PCs but am finding Mac ownership to be an exciting new adventure. Once I have had a chance to work with it a bit longer, I will get back to you with a more personal critique of my experiences. Once you step foot into the Apple community, you may never want to leave. It's an infectious and riveting experience. There are even Apple Camps, in-store training sessions and a crazy online network of fans, waiting with bated breath to hear what Steve Jobs will announce next. Please write to me at Holly@ShopAware.com to weigh in with your comments about the Mac vs. PC saga and let me know what your experiences have been.
