Christmas In Stockholm... Or Port Perry
Written by: Holly | December 2006

One of the first visible signs of Christmas is all of the beautiful store windows and decorations that are seen along the streets.

As we get older, we seem to have to try harder and harder to keep the magic of Christmas alive and strong. We get a bit jaded over the years and our lives become so busy that we just hustle and bustle until the holidays have come and gone in a complete blur. Short of having McTurkey sandwiches for our holiday dinners, we have forgotten how to slow down and enjoy the simpler pleasures that the season can bring into our lives and our families.

Often, taking a leisurely stroll down a small-town street, peering into the festive windows can bring back a bit of that magic. Some of my favourite small towns to visit this time of year include Uxbridge, Collingwood, Elora, Perth and Port Perry. During a recent stroll in Port Perry, I came across a brand new store called Stockholm Inside and the storefront window was decorated beautifully with Christmas cheer.

Upon entering the store, I was delighted by the array of colourful home décor and gift items. Owner Gun Persson opened Stockholm Inside just this past summer and the store has already begun to establish itself as a staple in the community.

"I import 80% from Swedish companies. My love for Scandinavian design made me open up my shop. I like to carry brands that have a strong and creative edge and also a high quality. We offer unique and fresh design ideas with simplistic beauty and one-on-one customer service," Gun said of Stockholm Inside.

If you can, spend some of your holiday shopping time this year in a small town like Port Perry. It really makes you feel as though you have stepped back in time, back to a time when Christmas was simpler, less super-mega-ultra-fied. Pick up some wonderful items at Stockholm inside, have a nice cup of coffee and sandwich at the Piano Bar Café (try their signature sandwich…delicious!), drop in to Hot Diggity Dog for a nice gift for your pooch and visit all of the other magnificent stores along the pretty streets of Port Perry.
